HOME DESIGN: It all starts with a plan.
When you start a new business, you have to build a portfolio.
And so if you’re a designer, you’ll want to do something a little bit different.
Here’s a list of things you should consider before you start your next project.
1.
Your niche Your niche is something that you think a lot of people would want to see you build.
For example, if you make a bed for a mannequin, you might want to make one for a family of three.
Or, for a small office, maybe you want to build one for five people.
This is a bit of a general guideline for design: It can be hard to know what kind of design you can do if you haven’t designed before.
But the important thing is to know your niche.
If you don’t know what your niche is, you won’t know where to start.
2.
Your brand name The more you know about your business, the more valuable your design portfolio will be.
In other words, your brand name will make you stand out from the crowd.
If your logo and/or name are both generic, it’s easy to fall behind.
For a new company, you need to make your logo more recognizable, especially if you have a lot going on.
For smaller companies, you want your name to be distinctive, so that people recognize your brand.
3.
Your product line You can have lots of ideas about what you want the home to look like, but what kind?
If you’re building a modern home for a single person, you probably won’t have much choice.
If it’s a small family, you can make something that looks good for three people, but not if it’s five.
So if you want something that’s simple and elegant, a modern design might be the way to go. 4.
Your budget You’ll want your home to be affordable, and you’ll probably want to work from your budget.
But you’ll also want to find out how much money you can afford to spend.
Here are some things to consider before designing: Your budget is a way of measuring the amount of time and money you have available to do your work.
If the budget is low, you’re probably not in a position to work on your project until you’ve reached your budget goal.
If, on the other hand, you’ve got a lot to spend, you may be able to finish your design work before the budget expires.
5.
Your project’s size If you have an office in a high-rise building, it might be difficult to afford to build something small.
But for smaller offices, it doesn’t make sense to build your home from scratch.
If one person has a desk, another can work on a couch.
6.
Your location When you work on designs that are for a specific project, it makes sense to think about where you live.
For an office, that might be your home office, or the building where you work, and your building’s neighbors.
If that’s your first home design project, you should also consider your city.
The city will be an important factor when designing your home.
You may be tempted to go to a big city like New York or Los Angeles, but it can also be more expensive.
If so, consider working from a smaller city.
7.
Your experience As a designer or designer-in-residence, you will likely be working with people who have experience working with clients or designers.
Your job as a home designer is to make sure your design doesn’t take a long time.
If there’s a client, you could ask for a time-tested design technique like a single-panel design.
8.
Your personality There’s nothing wrong with a person being quirky or eccentric.
But a design portfolio should include a little more of the normal person, too.
For the most part, people like to do things their own way.
They may enjoy making things themselves, they may like to eat, they might enjoy going to the movies, or they might just enjoy hanging out with friends.
When choosing a design, you don’st want to go for something that just looks like something a person would do, but instead be something that someone else would like.
9.
Your client’s goals Your clients should have a plan in mind for how they want to use the design.
It’s also important to know whether your design will help them sell their home.
If they want something more practical, they’ll want a small home, or something that has a nice design.
10.
Your clients’ experience You may also want a look at the design to see how it’s been used.
If someone has used your design, they probably already have a client who would like to use your home design.
This will help you to figure out what type of design they like.
And of course, you shouldn’t just pick a design that people like, as that’s
